Buffalo City Metro’s staff owe the city R12.7m in rates arrears, while the city’s councillors are in arrears to the tune of R112,200. Now the city, facing dwindling cash reserves due to poor revenue collection, has announced measures to clamp down on people who do not pay their rates.
As the EFF looks to grow its support in the Buffalo City Metro after the November 1 local government elections, party deputy president Floyd Shivambu built support in the metro at the weekend on one of many visits here in recent weeks. Shivambu held a series of meetings with party members, while also embarking on community meetings in Mdantsane and Duncan Village.
