As per Section 8(1) of the Karnataka Preservation of Trees Act, 1978, no person shall fell any tree or cause any tree to be felled on any land, whether in his ownership or occupancy, except with the previous permission of the Tree Officer.
K Parvathama, a resident of 4th B Cross of Michael Palya, said that she used to wait on the footpath for her grandson who alights from his school bus at the same location during weekdays. “I have seen two to three youths getting injured due to the slanting tree branch. I have also complained to the BBMP Forest Department but this problem is yet to be fixed,’’ said Parvathamma.
However, BBMP Deputy Conservator of Forests BLG Swamy said that the proposed nursery at Dasarahalli Lake will not affect the water-holding capacity of the lake. “It will prevent the encroachment of the lake land by others. We are not putting up permanent structures on the lake land. We will also not use water from the lake for watering saplings at the nursery,’’ said the DCF.
