A convicted sex offender was arrested Sunday in Lockport after police said he violated the terms of his sex offender registry.
Chad Michael Triche, 45, is charged with unlawful presence of a sex offender, the Lockport Police Department said.
Police were conducting patrols around 7 p.m. when they saw Triche parked at the Bayou Side Park at 222 Canal St., authorities said. Police knew from previous encounters that Triche was a registered sex offender.
There were several children playing at the park when Triche was present, police said.
Triche told the officers he was aware that he was a registered sex offender and was prohibited from being at the park, authorities said. Police took the suspect into custody without incident and drove him to the Lafourche Parish jail. ....
