MARTIN COUNTY Sheriff s deputies checking on a woman at her son s home in Palm City Sunday found her fatally shot in the back of the head, according to reports and Martin County Sheriff William Snyder. Snyder said the apparent suspect in the murder, was the woman s son, Christopher Ruffin, 28, who was fatally shot during a standoff with Palm Bay police and Brevard County sheriff s deputies. The mother, Christine Ruffin, is from upstate New York in the Syracuse area, and had been visiting her son, sheriff s officials said.
