China will create broad-spectrum treatments to tackle mutated strains of the COVID-19 virus and develop drugs with novel mechanisms to fight the pathogen, according to a document provided to China Daily.

The COVID-19 XAY.2 variant has not been detected in China yet and the country will continue to trace it and make scientific analysis, said Chang Zhaorui from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in an interview with Xinhua.
