3K bottles of Ivatan Beer to be produced, sold in Batanes — DOST – Manila Bulletin

DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said the Ivatan Beer “is now ready for commercialisation” in Batanes, as the agency extended P100,000 in assistance to Tawsen Agri-Ventures, a beneficiary of Small Enterprises Upgrading Technology Program (SETUP), to support the commercialization of the product.
“This April, locals from Batanes should expect to have a taste of their very own beer,” he said in his report.
“This would be the very first batch of Ivatan Beer to be produced, since the transfer of technology from the DOST Region 2 last March,” he noted.
The Tawsen Agri-Ventures has signed the technology licensing agreement with the BSC seeking to transfer the Ivatan Beer production technology to the local-based business. ....

Filipino agripreneur starts production of sweet potato beer
In the northernmost province
of the Philippines, production of Ivatan Beer, the first and only locally brewed beer in Batanes, has started. Dr. Alfonso Simon, Batanes State College (BSC) president, has stated that the technology used for producing the beer using sweet potato was developed by the research and development department of the BSC.
The BSC, through Simon, and trader Dennis Lim of Tawsen Agri-Ventures, signed the Technology Licensing Agreement (TLA) of the said beverage.
In an interview, Simon emphasized the significance of the Ivatan Beer to the people of Batanes: The fact that the Ivatan Beer is made from the locally-grown wakay or sweet potato, which is abundant in the province of Batanes, the product becomes even more interesting and appealing to the locals of Batanes, he told the Philippine News Agency. ....
