The Department of Basic Education has announced that the Presidential Youth Employment Stimulus will come to an end on Friday.

The programme, which started in December 2020, was aimed at creating employment opportunities and support workers negatively impacted by Covid-19.
The department says that through the programme, more than 320 000 employment opportunities were created.
The announcement comes after Sassa also announced that the Covid-19 Social Relief Distress (SRD) grant is coming to an end on Friday.
The department says the initiative was funded to the tune of R7 billion, most of which was distributed to provinces.

Teachers returned to school today ahead of the school reopening on 15 February.
The Department of Basic Education had to postpone the opening of schools due to the Covid-19 second wave.
Spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga tells Mandy Wiener that they haven t received any reports yet and they are on track in terms of matric results.
On our side things are going fine, school management teams went back to school last week to prepare for the return of teachers this week.
