Than mediation. At the end of the day we have constant exchanges with President Trump. I share his goals, hell say he doesnt agree with methods, but i want to get there, i want to have an agreement. And i think theres been a true change. This morning president rohani showed himself to be opening to this meeting happening and President Trump has been saying for weeks hes been demanding and being tough and putting forward sanctions but im ready to have a meeting to make a deal. I think were making progress. I want this meeting to happen and i want there to be an agreement between the United States and iran and france will play the role that its meant to play together with the United Kingdom, with germany and all of the other Signatory Powers and the permanent members of the security council. Iran is a country thats not the same country it was two and a half years ago when i came into office. Iran was the number one state of terror throughout the world. There were 18 sites of confliction
dads, who would potentially cause problems for the state. these were, in many cases, criminals, people who had other kinds of issues with violence. who could be brought into this mercenary army, and when they died, they were sent back home, they were quickly buried, and very few people ask questions about it. i went to central russia and many of these people were recruited from the poorest parts of central russia. and when the bodies came, back because first they were fighting in eastern ukraine, they were also fighting bashir al-assad in syria. when the bodies did go home, they were buried in secret, we weren t allowed to film them. it was a code of omerta that, yes, this group existed, by the, way for most of its existent wagner was operating in secret, but you couldn t talk about it. then, the big break out moment came with the invasion of ukraine about a year and a half
to what evelyn farkas mentioned about the invasion of ukraine. a war criminal, bashir al assad in syria, killing thousands of people constantly. and they continue to seek to intrude in our electoral process. so, it s certainly concern about ukraine, but it s also this other realm of russian behavior we should be concerned about before we give bri them back into the tent n terms of iran, i share the president s hope that we can get to a deal with iran. we need another like we need a hole in the head. dealing with this embedded theocracy and hard liners are in ascendants now. we have a much better chance with north korea, a pragmatic
of this, you know, throw away compliment that he is sure is he probably a lovely man. president rouhani is not moderate. he is not lovely. he is a liar. he is deceitful. as long as he has been president, not only has the regime not moderated, it s actually gotten worse. it s been undermining iraq s sovereignty. it s been supporting bashir al assad in syria. supporting terrorism. and, of course, the houthis in yemen as well against our saudi allies. there is nothing lovely about president rouhani. neil: do you get a sense from the united nations here that the fact that he is saying we pay a lot here and he went beyond nato. we get very little bang for the buck for nations that don t support us. not that you want to buy their favor but certainly don t want to put a down payment on their hate. i think that was the message. how was that received? i think that sort of ties in to the underlying theme throughout the whole meeting with president trump and also ambassador bolton and
