PigOut snack brand owner Outstanding Foods in new financing round

SternAegis Ventures is a returning investor
Outstanding Foods, a plant-based snacks business in California, has secured US$10m in funding from both new and previous investors.
The Series A round was led by existing investor New York-based private-equity firm SternAegis Ventures, which contributed to the $5m Outstanding Foods received last year with participation from L.A. Lakers basketball player JaVale McGee.
The company was founded in 2015 by former Hampton Creek co-founder and Beyond Meat product developer Dave Anderson, who is also a chef, and CEO Bill Glaser initially as PigOut. In 2019, it also got an undisclosed investment amount from Katjesgreenfood, the venture fund of German confectionery group Katjes, followed in April last year by US rapper and celebrity Snoop Dogg. ....

Spain berry group Surexport sells majority stake to PE firm Alantra

Surexport believes demand will grow on back of health and convenience trends
Surexport, the Spain-based berry company that does business across western and central Europe, has sold a majority stake in itself to private-equity firm Alantra to accelerate our growth plan , according to the strawberry supplier s CEO.
Andrés Morales, Surexport s chief executive, said the deal, struck for an undisclosed sum, will give the company greater resources to simultaneously execute several organic and inorganic initiatives with the aim of becoming best partners with our clients by granting them an all-year-round supply and a best-in-class service .
From its base in Huelva in Spain, Surexport supplies strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries to European retailers, mainly in the UK, Germany, central Europe and the Benelux markets, as well as to domestic customers. ....

Nomad Foods in talks to buy Fortenova's frozen-food assets

UK-based Nomad Foods is in exclusive negotiations to buy Balkans-based Fortenova Group s frozen-food portfolio.
The Birds Eye, Findus and Aunt Bessie s frozen-food owner said the prospective transaction is in line with its strategy of complementing strong organic growth in the base business with the acquisition of market-leading frozen-food brands across Europe .
Croatia s Fortenova, which emerged from the restructuring of the now defunct Agrokor, once the largest consumer goods business in the Balkans, confirmed it was putting its frozen-food assets on the block in November as part of plans to reduce debt and concentrate on growth in other areas.
The assets are made up of Ledo, Ledo Citluk and Frikom. Ledo is the largest manufacturer and distributor of ice cream and frozen food in Croatia while Ledo Citluk is a business based in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Frikom is a Serbian maker of ice cream and other frozen foods. ....

PepsiCo unveils latest cohort
A start-up that treats cognitive disorders through mind-tracking technology and a firm that performs tests on gut health are among ten companies to have been selected as finalists in PepsiCo s latest accelerator programme.
The Quaker cereal and Lay s crisps owner is giving each of the ten firms US$20,000 and has awarded each a place on a six-month business programme, working with PepsiCo executives in R&D, supply chain and design.
In June, one of the ten will be awarded an additional $100,000 in funding.
Each of the ten companies chosen as finalists in PepsiCo s Greenhouse Accelerator operate in the broad field of consumer health. ....
