if there s a pattern. indiana incomplete. we ll see if it joins us. we mentioned ohio. and this is what ohio looks like. democratic turn out down 27% in their primary. relative to 2018. on the republican side, turn out up 28%. again very similar to that number you saw in texas. again it s a hot senate race. national attention. open primary. maybe there were some democrats who thought, hey, you know, that s where the action is. i m going to vote in that race. you know, tim ryan suggested that maybe there were democrats there voting for dolan in the republican primary. now you got two states where you ve got republican turnout up near 30%. you have two states where the democratic turnout is just not tracking with that relative to 2018. so north carolina and pennsylvania and these states coming up. we ll see if it becomes a pattern. you could stretch it back to november of last year when we saw disparities in turnout on the right and the left in certain base constituencies.
lost them in the virginia governor s race, so they are in play and this will help the democrats there. the election will be about a lot of other things, as big as this will be, including the problems biden has had with his approval ratings which will help the republicans in the suburbs. so it is a another lock on the inferno, but it is a very big log, and if the democratic base constituencies and potentially in the critical suburbs that could be a good political weapons for the democrats they might have 21 or 24 weeks down to 15, still be massively unpopular, but it won t have quite the shock impact as overturning roe v. wade. luckily for us these two very smart gentlemen are going to stay with us through this break, coming up when we come back and continue our conversation, at least some republican lawmakers are attacking each other. others are plotting a government shutdown. it is a day in the life of the
november. there s a school of thought about these midterm elections that when you re the opposition party and you have a president at 40%, they are tough to screw up. it s the trump era. maybe the rules are different now. let me ask you from a stand point of a democrat, what s the biggest risk? what s the biggest fear a democrat should have between now and november so they wouldn t screw up an atmosphere like this? well a week in politics is a lifetime, first of all. it s a long time before the mid terms. a lot can go wrong. a lot can go right. events can overtake the landscape. i think chairman steele put it right from a republican stand point. from a democratic standpoint it s turn out. they have to get the turn out. that includes young people as well as their other base constituencies. they ve got to do a much better job sharpening and deepening, strengthening their message. it can t just be against donald
