Organizations to host Earth Day clean-up events Saturday

Keep Amarillo Clean is set to celebrate Earth Day this weekend, with the organization s officials stressing the importance of keeping all areas of Amarillo clean. 
According to a flyer from the group, community members will meet up at elementary school parking lots throughout the city at 9 a.m. Saturday, starting the clean-up process around the neighborhood of each respective school. 
The goal, according to the flyer, is for individuals to collect one kitchen trash bag full of trash per person, which officials state will make a huge difference in the cleanliness of Amarillo.  
For larger items, the landfill will offer free dumping for Amarillo residents. The Keep Amarillo Clean organization is also asking individuals with pick-up trucks to take large items found in alleys, such as mattresses and couches, to the landfill. ....

A pair of Amarillo City Council members delivered a Neighborhood Planning Oversight Committee report during the council s virtual regular session, sharing insight regarding the plan s progress.
Per the city s website, the Neighborhood Planning initiative was created via a 2016 interlocal agreement between the city of Amarillo and Potter County to aid revitalization of some of the city s older neighborhoods through the development of area-specific plans. The city and neighborhoods collaborate to identify concerns, opportunities, a vision, goals and project priorities and the four participating neighborhoods are North Heights, Barrio, San Jacinto and Eastridge.
