new hampshire. on what could only be described as a wild day for the 2024 presidential campaign. what once was a pretty clap only a couple of months ago, is now down to a two-person race, as of today. after florida governor ron desantis dropped out and endorsed donald trump, immediately basically, just hours ago. now this was a rocky road for desantis from the very beginning, i think it is fair to say. because remember back in the spring, when he kicked off his campaign with a glitchy quid twitter live screen. we all remember that. it turns out things never really went up from there. i know it may be hard to picture, especially tonight, before he entered the race, desantis was thought of as the next great hope of the republican party. he was the biggest story of the 2022 election on the republican side, and he was thought of as donald trump s biggest threat. but for messaging, for messaging mistakes to money issues, his campaign quickly, and i mean quite quickly, fell ....

but everybody just calls it the bean. but you know what chicago is not known for? latinos. cause when you think mexican, you think what? texas or cali? and puerto ricans, you think new york city immediately. but nope, they re right here in chi town. that s right, chicago has the second-largest mexican population of any u.s. city and a very, very large, thriving puerto rican community. latinos have been here longer than wrigley field, and they ve brought their amazing culture with them. i m talking food from michoacán and salsa from san juan. waves of latinos came to america s heartland and they worked in its factories, farms, and service industries and they turned chicagoland into chicagolandia. so i m here to find out what kind of impact decades of latinx influence have had on the windy city. and i m gonna have some amazing food, because you know that happens a lot on this show. it s right here in my contract. feed john. but what about us latinos? we ve been here in this city, and we ve got every kind of latino. you want your puerto ricans? wepa. you want your cubans? dale! dominicans? que lo que tigre. colombianos? todo bien, todo bien. mexicanos? no manches, guey. and this is where i grew up, too. and when i was a kid, i don t know what the streets were paved with, but it damn sure as hell was not gold. but that didn t stop latinx new yorkers from making big contributions. basquiat, rita moreno puerto rican. cardi b dominican. supreme court justice sotomayor, nuyorican from the bx. even the very first non-indigenous person to live and work in the island of manhattan in the 1600s was juan rodriguez, a dominicano. mira eso, right from the start, we ve been here making this city great. now, i don t know what new york would be without latinos, but it sure as hell wouldn t smell as good, it wouldn t taste as good, and it definitely wouldn t sound as good. that s right, cause salsa music ....
