Louvre recovers 16th-century armour more than 35 years after it was stolen

The Louvre Museum in Paris has recovered a set of gold and silver-encrusted Renaissance-era armour nearly 40 years after it was stolen. A military antiques expert alerted police after being called in to give advice regarding an inheritance in Bordeaux in January and becoming suspicious about the luxurious helmet and body armour in the family s collection. Police later identified the items from a database of stolen artworks as having been taken from the Louvre on May 31, 1983, in circumstances that remain a mystery. These objects, which belonged to the collection of the Baroness de Rothschild, had been donated to the Louvre in 1922 and stolen in 1983. AFP

Who are the Rothschilds? The non-laser-filled answer – The Forward

One of them married Nicky Hilton, Paris’s sister. Another is an environmental activist in Santa Monica, California who crossed the Pacific Ocean in “Plastiki,” a craft made of recycled plastic bottles. Another tragically died just two weeks ago at age 57. They invest, run business interests, donate generously to a variety of causes, and not one of them has ever caused a forest fire with laser beams. Today’s Rothschilds aren’t as rich as Bezos and Gates, but they still command the attention of antisemites and conspiracy mongers. Case in point: Just over two years ago, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia suggested in a Facebook post that wildfires in California started by PG&E, in conjunction with the Rothschilds, using a space laser, in order to clear room for a high-speed rail project.
