Humphreys resigned on Wednesday, stating her health had become negatively affected by the stresses of the position. Humphreys was elected in October 2019 after receiving 1686 votes for the Katikati Waihi Beach ward. She was elected alongside fellow councillors James Denyer (2255 votes) and Anne Henry (1491 votes). ....
In my first post-election column a few weeks back, I said that one of my four priorities for Tauranga was transport. Tauranga is still a great place to live but there’s no denying it’s gotten harder in recent years and a big part of this is getting around. When my family and I moved from the Mount to the city side of town a few years back I told myself it didn’t matter because I would still be able to drive over in a handful of minutes for a walk up Mauao. Of course, that’s no longer true. It can take forever. And the same is true whether it’s getting to work, getting kids to sport practice or freight to and from our Port. ....
