Library patrons in some of the more remote areas of the county are again able to enjoy the benefits of the LINK Libraries serving their communities as the “mini branches” reopened recently through an expanded partnership between the James V. Brown Library and the townships where they are located.
Barbara S. McGary, executive director of the library, reported to the board of trustees at their meeting that the satellite locations at Barbours and Pine Creek are now open. The Barbours site is in Plunketts Creek Township and the Pine Creek facility is located in McHenry Township in Cammal. ....

$250,000 bequest to help Bookmobile campaign | News, Sports, Jobs

A donation of $250,000 targeted for the James V. Brown Library’s Bookmobile campaign, leaves just under $25,000 remaining to be raised of the $500,000 funds needed for the project, according to Barbara S. McGary, the library’s executive director.
McGary noted that replacing the Bookmobile is the library’s most important project right now.
“We weren’t able to raise the money that we wanted to in 2020, so this is just amazing,” she stated.
The announcement of the donation was made by Robin Glossner, development, marketing and program coordinator, at a meeting of the library’s Board of Trustees Thursday. The donor remains anonymous at this time. ....

Federal program aids library with payroll | News, Sports, Jobs

The James V. Brown Library has qualified for the second round of the Payment Protection Program, which will provide $277,700 for payroll expenses for 24 weeks, it was announced by Kristin Caringi, chief financial and chief operations officer at the library. This amount is equal to what the library received in the first round of the program.
Caringi told the library’s board of trustees that because payroll costs have come down due to a new organizational structure being implemented, the entire amount will go to payroll costs during the stated period.
The loans are designed to provide an incentive for small businesses to retain workers on their payroll during the pandemic. Loans are then forgiven if the businesses meet certain requirements. The loan obtained by the library from the program had been forgiven. ....

A list of major accomplishments for 2020 and the introduction of the 2021 budget were highlighted during the year-end meeting of the James V. Library’s Board of Trustees recently.
This year, one of the major challenges faced by the library was the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The last minute closure order, the uncertainty of it all, transferring to a remote work environment, developing policies, procedures and guidelines for staff to telework and then return to a safe working environment, were all challenges that tested us in unique ways,” Barbara S. McGary, the library’s executive director, said in her report to the board. ....
