Growing up in southern India, Alarmathi Sankaran thought that 60 degrees was cold.
Then she moved to Woodbury.
“The whole concept of Minnesota winter was a great challenge to me,” Sankaran said.

On December 18, 2020, the community of Needville, Texas, suffered a great loss with the passing of Barbara Schmidt. Born and raised in Needville, Texas, this loving wife and mother of two passed away peacefully, after suffering complications due to Covid-19, despite heroic efforts made by the hospital. Her children were allowed to be with her via phone as she took her last breaths at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Sugar Land at 4:47 pm.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Clifton and Adella Wenzel of Needville and her brother Lee Wenzel. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, W. Lee (Dub) Schmidt, son Kevin Schmidt and his wife Deanna, and daughter Vickie Schmidt-Vickery and her husband Craig. She also leaves behind 4 grandchildren. Barbara is also survived by brother Lawrence Wenzel and his wife Ellen of Georgetown, brother Thomas Wenzel and his wife Martha of McKinney, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glynn and Bernice Schmidt of Needville, as well as numerous nieces,
