CHA contract clears the way for $51 million affordable housing deal led by Jonathan Rose


Built in 1972, Barbara Jean Wright Courts has deteriorated badly under its current owner, Chicago Community Development, which acquired the property in 1999. Jonathan Rose has agreed to take over the complex but still needs to line up financing to complete the transaction, which should happen by this fall, said Jonathan Rose partner Nathan Taft. With a CHA contract in place, the landlord can now focus on the financing.  
“It’s a huge vote of confidence in this, and an acknowledgment that the property needs attention,” Taft said.
The change in ownership would bring stability to the property and preserve affordable housing, a constant challenge for a city with a perennial gap between the housing that’s available and what residents can afford. ....
