Published February 7, 2021, 10:21 AM The Court of Appeals (CA) has affirmed the life imprisonment and the P500,000 fine imposed by the trial court in 2019 on a foreigner from whom 2,815.5 grams of shabu, an illegal drug, was confiscated in a buy-bust operation conducted by the police in 2018 in Makati City. Affirmed was the conviction of Shi Jianjia, a Chinese national who was identified in the trial court proceedings as “engaged in the smuggling and distribution of illegal drugs” in the Philippines. Shi was arrested by members of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) in Barangay Pio del Pilar in Makati City on a tip from an informant in late 2017 and after several days of surveillance. Confiscated from him, among other things, were two plastic packs containing more than 2.8 kilos of shabu, methamphetamine hydrochloride. ....
