ZAMBOANGA CITY - Policemen have seized a shipment of some PHP1.2 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, a top police official announced Wednesday. Col. Diomarie Albarico, Zamboanga del Sur police director, said the smuggled cigarettes were seized around 1 p.m. Tuesday along the national highway in Purok Talisay 1, Barangay Lower Landing, Dumingag. Albarico said the 4th Platoon of the 1st Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company led by Patrolman Jayson Pequino were conducting a quarantine checkpoint when they flagged down a van loaded with plastic containers. "When the vehicle was flagged down, the driver and truckman were asked for their vaccination cards but failed to present such documents," Albarico said. "The truck man showed suspicious behavior and voluntarily disclosed that their van was carrying boxes of undocumented cigarettes," he added. He said the truck is registered under the name of Remar Rehabilitation Cente
