1 dead, hundreds of houses destroyed in Negros Occidental floods

Silay City Mayor Mark Golez confirmed on Saturday that 43-year-old Marvito Lumanog in Barangay Guimbalaon was found dead on Saturday morning, after he was trapped inside his house when it collapsed due to soil erosion.
“Sad to say, we have one casualty,” the mayor added.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported it as a minor landslide. Lumanog’s house was made of light materials, Golez said.
Meanwhile, 132 houses were initially reported to have been destroyed, while 71 houses were damaged in the flashfloods caused by torrential rains since Friday morning.
In Silay City, 17 houses were destroyed and 119 were damaged, while in Talisay City, 13 were destroyed and 50 were damaged. ....

Negros Occidental floods leave 2 dead

A SECOND wave of flash floods hit the Third District and other northern Negros areas Friday night, January 8, 2021, up to early Saturday morning, January 9, that resulted in two casualties.
Marvito Yap Lumanog, 43, was found dead, Saturday after his flood-hit house made of light materials fell on him in Hacienda San Herman, Barangay Guimbalaon, Silay City.
A cadaver of a male victim was also found in a creek Sunday in Purok Santan, Barangay Zone 11, Talisay City. The victim, who was not yet identified as of Sunday evening, was believed to have drowned due to the strong current of the water. ....
