6.6-magnitude quake leaves fissures, landslides and damaged houses

CALATAGAN, Batangas – A fissures surfaced in Sitio Putol, Barangay Bagong Silang while an incident of landslide was recorded in Barangay Luya, both in this municipality due to the 6.6-magnitude quake that occured at exactly 4:49 in the morning on Saturday, the Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Officer Ronald Torres reported.
Another incident of landslide beside a school building that is being built at the Miranda Elementary School in Talisay town was also reported but the MDRRMO here believed that the incident was triggered by the bad weather that uninterruptedly brought heavy rains and loosened the ground.
In the municipality of Taal, new fissures and sinkholes surfaced in barangays Lagile and Apacay, but Taal mayor Fulgencio Mercado cannot ascertain yet whether the ground movements were due to earthquake of to the recent eruption of Taal Volcano and the torrential rains brought by typhoon Fabian and the southwest mon ....

Thousands evacuated as Taal volcano erupts — OCD – Manila Bulletin

More than 1,300 individuals in Batangas were affected by the sudden phreatomagmatic (magmatic gases and steam) eruption of Taal volcano on Thursday afternoon, July 1.
The eruption sent residents scurrying out of their homes to escape hot ash plumes that were ejected into the air by the volcano, evoking haunting memories of its 2020 eruption.

Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Mark Timbal said Friday, July 2, that a total of 345 families composed of 1,392 individuals were affected by the short-lived eruption of Taal volcano which occured at 3:16 p.m., Thursday. The eruption happened just as the NDRRMC celebrated the start of the National Disaster Resilience Month on July 1. ....
