of people on the hill, especially those in the republican party consider him a friend, and so i do think this was a tougher vote for some of those more moderate republicans given their history with mark meadows and the fact that he did participate somewhat, even if he stopped participating when it came time to come in for an interview. it may have been tough when they were thinking about it, but not when it came time to cast that vote. scott, all the focus right now is on the highest levels of government, what they were doing, what they knew on january 6th, but you ve been watching the hearings for people who are actually on the ground. what do we know about the connection between the two groups on that day and the days leading up to it? it s foggy right now, stephanie. we re at nearly 700 criminal defendants in the u.s. capitol insurrection, but the real epicenter of this sweeping case comes from the far right groups,
republicans said that day, what fox news hosts said that day, and she s trying to remind them that this should not be a partisan investigation. it should not be a partisan issue, that you all once agreed with me about how serious january 6th was and the need to investigate it. is she having any success doing that? because right now she appears to be a champion, a hero for those on the left. and besides adam kikinzinger, i don t see any republicans listening to her, though she should. you re right. it s a tall task, and when there was the bannon vote, she did have seven republicans join her for the bannon vote. that was, as you pointed out, a bit of a different situation. steve bannon didn t come in at all to talk to the committee. he didn t produce any documents, and also, he doesn t have the kind of connections on capitol hill that mark meadows does. mark meadows was a congressman for more than seven years. he led the freedom caucus, a lot
realistically, only half of them may be back after the next election. i don t see these and actually, it s just one of the votes was actually a member from south carolina who said the only reason i m doing this is because i want republicans to be able to do this to democrats two years from now, but this was not a silver lining in the trajectory of the republican party. this was more the last gasp of those who believe in law and order and the integrity of the congress and the integrity of our democracy. very unfortunately, many of the members who voted to hold bannon accountable will not return. but look, i think the bannon vote serves as an example to the other names you mentioned, the meadows and the others, that if you don t cooperate, there will be consequences. whether or not doj actually pursues criminal indictment of steve bannon, there are a lot of legal costs that go along with what he is now entrapped in, and so look, the house is doing
prosecution by the u.s. justice department. mr. bannon, the former trump provider, says he will not obey a subpoena from congress from the investigation into the january 6th attack. congress tomorrow is about to vote basically to ask the justice department to make him obey the subpoena, to criminally prosecute him and try to jail him if he continues to defy the subpoena. we re expecting that vote tomorrow. it was a party line vote in the rules committee. all republicans voted against referring him for prosecution. all democrats voted for it. because democrats are a majority in the house, we expect that even if it is just a long party
in positions of public terrorist. will you be able to say you did everything possible to ensure americans got the truth about those events? or did you look away? did you make partisan excuses and accept the unacceptable? republican liz cheney speaking to her republican colleagues tonight. it will be interesting. it will be interesting to see if any republicans other than she and adam kinzinger who s also on the january 6th investigation committee, it will be interesting to see if any other republicans follow her call there when that house vote is called tomorrow on whether or not bannon should be prosecuted for refusing to go along with this investigation. today the number two republican in the house steve scalise sent this to every single republican in the house, telling them they must vote no on that bannon vote tomorrow. this is not the only way republicans appear to be organizing to try to slow walk and block the various inquiries into january 6th. at least two republican senator
