After a bat-dominated first day, Bangladesh Friday bagged a comeback in the competition, with bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam picking up three wickets in the first session of the second day of the final Test in Kandy.
While right-arm pacer Taskin struck twice to remove Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews, Taijul bagged the wicket of Dhananjaya de Silva.
On Thursday, Bangladesh gave away 291 runs for just one wicket after losing the toss and sent to bowl first at Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium.
Bangladesh were wicketless in the first hour of day two. But it was a short delivery from Taskin which worked well for him. Thirimanne was uncomfortable and the ball touched his gloves before reaching the keeper safely.

Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed reaped the rewards of his improved fitness, delivering a sensational spell to break the dominance of Sri Lanka at the half-way mark of day two of the second and final Test at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
In an unforgiving condition and in a pitch conducive to the batsman, he left Sri Lankan at troublesome situation with his pace and bounce. By doing so, he scalped three wickets to reduce Sri Lanka at 425-6 at tea.
Sri Lanka looked to extend their dominance after resuming the day on 291-1 but Taskin gave the side breakthrough twice in the morning session, removing Lahiru Thirimanne, who added just 9 runs to his overnight total to be out on 140 and Angelo Mathews for 5. In this session Sri Lanka could score just 43 runs, which testament of how dominating the Bangladesh bowler, specially Taskin was.

Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne struck his second successive century as his side kept Bangladesh at bay by reaching 188 for no loss at tea on day one of the second Test at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
At the second interval of the day, Karunaratne who scored his career best 244 in only innings of first Test, was batting on 106 off 175, hitting 13 boundaries with Lahiru Thirimanne on 80. Thirimanne who closed in on his third century hit eight fours in his knock, playing 174 balls.
The duo though made a cautious start, scoring just 66 runs at lunch, came out from the shell as the time progressed. In form Karunaratne indeed led the charge as he came hard on Bangladeshi bowlers after being reprieved on 28 as he edged a Taskin Ahmed delivery to first slip where Nazmul Hossain Shanto put down the chance.
Tigers seek redemption in 1st Test against Sri Lanka

Bangladesh national cricket team sought redemption, putting behind the lean form as they take on Sri Lanka in the opening match of the two-match Test series at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy o Wednesday.
The match starts at 10.30 AM.
The series, which is the part of ICC World Test Championship, was postponed twice last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Subsequently after their 3-0 ODI series sweep over West Indies, the Tigers lost the way and the rot began with their 2-0 whitewash at the hands of the same opponent who was depleted severely by the absence of their first choice players.
