Govt to get Tk 17.25bn foreign loans for stimulus packages

The government is going to receive nearly Tk 17.25 billion in loan support from two development partners to implement the Covid-19 incentive packages.
Of the money, Tk 11.30 billion or 113m euro will come from the European Union (EU) and Tk 5.95 billion or $70 million will come from OPEC Fund for International Development, finance ministry sources said.
MoUs have been signed with the European Union and OPEC Fund for International Development with regard to this.
Economic Relations Finance Division has recently been informed about the loan through a letter, sources added. ....

The European Union and Germany have signed an agreement to provide €113 million (nearly 1,145 crore taka) in support to the Government of Bangladesh’s Social Protection Programme for Unemployed and Distressed Workers in the RMG, Leathergoods and Footwear Industries. This will contribute to safeguard livelihoods of workers in export-oriented industries.
The programme, which is part of Team Europe’s contribution to fight COVID-19 and its consequences in Bangladesh, offers a safety net to workers whose livelihoods are affected by the economic fallout. It also contributes to strengthening the resilience of Bangladesh’s social security system. ....

The European Union and Germany have signed an agreement to provide EUR 113 million (nearly Tk 1,145 crore) to Bangladesh s Social Protection Programme for Unemployed and Distressed Workers in the RMG, Leathergoods and Footwear Industries.
The programme, which is part of Team Europe s contribution to fight Covid-19 and its consequences in Bangladesh, offers a safety net to workers whose livelihoods are affected by the economic fallout.
It also contributes to strengthening the resilience of Bangladesh s social security system, said a statement by the EU on Thursday. ....
