However, Australian academic Kylie Moore-Gilbert, 33, will be celebrating at home with her family following her release from an Iranian prison on spying charges. Ms Moore-Gilbert was one of Tehran s highest profile prisoners from the time she was apprehended at Tehran airport in 2018 as she was about to return home from an academic conference. Her release was part of an international prisoner swap where three Iranian men were freed from jail in Thailand, where they were held over their part in a failed 2012 bombing plot. Two other high profile Australian women were also released from foreign prisons during the year.
