A sharp increase in the number of social grant recipients after the introduction of the special grant during the pandemic has exacerbated the strained grant payment system.

The COVID-19 social relief of distress grant has exposed long-standing challenges at payment sites across the country, especially in rural areas where recipients are exploited and paypoints are not in good condition and robbed routinely.
With a further three-month extension on the COVID-19 grant, hundreds of Eastern Cape beneficiaries in particular will continue to struggle to collect their R350 from Post Offices. Those who live in rural areas have to walk long distances or sleep outside the premises to ensure they get their money. But it is not only the recipients who have been affected. ....

SASSA BOSS SUSPENDED OVER HARASSMENT CLAIMS!

Sassa Western and Eastern Cape regional manager, Bandile Maqetuka, has been suspended following sexual harassment allegations.
It’s alleged the incident involves Maqetuka and a Sassa employee based in the East London office.
Sassa CEO Totsie Memela placed Maqetuka on precautionary suspension.
“We’re committed to ensuring all employees feel safe and are treated equally,” said Memela.
“To this end, the agency has embarked on an internal awareness campaign to educate employees about sexual harassment and what their rights are.” ....

The SA Social Security Agency has suspended its Eastern Cape head Bandile Maqetuka over sexual harassment allegations.
An employee at the agency s provincial head offices in East London s Quigney has filed a complaint against Maqetuka.
Sassa CEO Totsie Memela placed Maqetuka on precautionary suspension and launched an investigation.
The Eastern Cape head of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) Bandile Maqetuka has been suspended over allegations of sexual harassment.
Maqetuka, a regional executive manager at the provincial head offices of Sassa in East London, has been accused of sexual harassment by an employee at the office.
Upon receiving these allegations, Sassa CEO Ms Totsie Memela took swift action and placed Maqetuka on precautionary suspension. Furthermore, Sassa immediately instituted an investigation into the allegations, said its national spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi. ....
