Bishop urges Ugandans, security agencies to denounce violence

A section of Church leaders in Greater Luweero have urged the faithful to denounce acts that undermine the country’s stability and pray for a peaceful post-election period.
While a section of the aggrieved parties in the recently concluded General Election have sought redress in courts of law, Kasana-Luweero Diocese Bishop Paul Ssemogerere believes that denouncing acts of violence will boost development in Uganda.
“We have seen several leaders that lost the election congratulate their opponents and rally the population to support the new leaders, but many have run to court for redress. We recently saw the security led by the UPDF take a bold move to apologise for their operational mistakes when the soldiers beat up journalists,” he said. ....

The Bamunanika County Member of Parliament who is also State minister for Higher Education, Mr John Chrysostom Muyingo, has said he will continue supporting various community projects in the area despite being voted out of Parliament.
Mr Muyingo, who has served as MP for Bamunanika County since 2011, lost the seat to National Unity Platform (NUP) party candidate, Mr Robert Ssekitoleko, in the recently concluded elections.
Speaking to Daily Monitor in an interview yesterday, the minister said he respects the voters’ decision and pledged to work with the new MP. ....

Dr Wilberforce Kisamba Mugerwa, a former minister and Luweero District chairperson, who gained renown for being the minister in-charge of seed capital (entandikwa) in the mid-1990s, died at Mulago hospital on Thursday aged 75.
His loss was most perhaps felt in greater Luweero, the area of his birth which he served diligently for a long time.
Those he interacted with during Christmas festivities just a fortnight ago at his home in Kikonda Village, Bamunanika Sub-county, Luweero District, said the news of his passing was shocking. ....
