ISLAMABAD:
The government on Thursday approved 13 mega projects costing Rs322 billion, including Rs32 billion plan to fight locusts despite serious questions over the viability of the scheme.
Headed by Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved the mega development projects.
“The Locust Emergency and Food Security Project (LEAFS) that probably needed time before arriving at a decision was approved in about one minute,” said a source in the Planning Ministry.

ISLAMABAD (APP) – The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) met under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, approved various development projects including water and road infrastructure schemes.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, Federal Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Division, Khusro Bakhtiar, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Institutional Reforms and Austerity Dr Ishrat Hussain, representatives of the provincial governments and senior officials.

ECNEC okays Rs325 bln for road construction, reservoirs projects

ISLAMABAD: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Thursday approved nearly Rs325 billion for infrastructure development, including construction of roads and water reservoirs projects.
Ecnec took the decisions during a meeting presided over by finance minister Hafeez Shaikh.
The Ecnec approved the greater Karachi Water Supply Scheme (K-IV) 260 MGD (Phase-I) to provide additional 650 MGD water to meet the demand of the city. The total cost of the project will be Rs25,551.77 million which will be shared on a 50:50 percent basis by the federal government and the government of Sindh respectively.
