IT Sligo takes step towards Technological University status

The Minister for State at the Department of Health Frank Feighan has welcomed the announcement that IT Sligo along with GMIT and LKIT have today (Friday) submitted their long-awaited joint application for Technological University status.
Minister Feighan said “This really is exciting news for the future of Education in the Region, for the staff and students of IT Sligo and for Co. Sligo.
“From speaking to the Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris last night, I am aware that his Department has been expecting this application and upon receipt of a formal application letter, he will appoint an international expert panel to examine the case for the proposed University, before it is considered by the Higher Education Authority and then decided upon by the Minister early next year. ....

North West left out of outdoor dining development fund - Harkin - Highland Radio


A South Donegal Deputy has hit out at what she says is the Government s cynical disregard of its commitment to a policy of Balanced Regional Development.
It s after a fund to support the development of outdoor dining infrastructure was announced for eight cities and towns across the country.
Deputy Marian Harkin however, has described the proposal as further discrimination against the North West with no support announced for a single town in the region.
She says, the failure to include anywhere in the North West totally disregards where government resources are most needed, and chooses to ignore the fact that the region has been returned to EU designation as a Region in Transition. ....

Responding to Deputy Marian Harkin in Dail Eireann, this week the Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris confirmed that the process for collaboration between Sligo IT and St. Angela’s College is live and that having met St. Angela’s he was ‘blown away by them’. 
He further went on to state that St. Angela’s College is ‘proactive and innovative’ and that he ‘couldn’t speak highly enough’ of the College itself.
Minister Harris went on to say that the integration proposal had dragged on way too long and that there needed to be a decision and clarity on the matter as soon as possible. ....
