Each branch would be open 8.5 hours every Monday through Thursday, and six hours every Friday and Saturday.

Even with the restoration, library hours would be slashed 16 percent.
Gloria and head librarian Misty Jones said they are committed to a full restoration of library hours within a year. But Jones told the City Council Thursday that she can’t move any quicker because she must fill 167 vacant jobs.
Gloria and Jones also want to convert many of the library system’s part-time “hourly” jobs into either half-time or full-time positions with benefits, a complicated process that involves meeting with labor union officials. ....

San Diego officials unveiled plans May 6 to partially reverse a proposal to slash library hours by 23 percent but said staffing challenges will delay plans to restore Sunday hours and that most branches in the 36-library city system will stay closed through the summer.
The La Jolla/Riford Library branch at 7555 Draper Ave. is open for limited in-person services from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. ....

Following years of failed attempts to regulate the proliferation of short-term vacation rentals, the San Diego City Council on Feb. 23 endorsed a yearly cap that could cut the volume of the more active rentals by as much as 30 percent.
Councilman Joe LaCava, whose District 1 includes La Jolla, cast the only dissenting vote among the nine council members, failing to win support for four suggested amendments.
The new regulations, which still need the blessing of the California Coastal Commission, grew out of a compromise plan that won the support of Airbnb and other large home-sharing platforms, as well as organized labor. ....

Following years of failed attempts to regulate the proliferation of Airbnb-style rentals, the San Diego City Council on Tuesday endorsed a yearly cap that could cut the volume of more active vacation rentals by as much as 30 percent.
The new regulations, which still need a second vote of the council before becoming law, grew out of a compromise plan that won the support of Airbnb and other large home-sharing platforms, as well as the local hotel workers union. Shepherded by Council President Jennifer Campbell, whose district includes several of the city’s beach communities, the regulatory plan calls for an overall cap on the number of whole-home rentals that are available for more than 20 days in a year. ....
