ENVIRONMENTALISTS have launched a last push ‘Views We’ll Lose’ as part of their campaign to stop a Warminster housing development being built.
The group, Sustainable Warminster, say that plans to put 28 new homes on land at Damask Way will blight the nearby Smallbrook Nature Reserve and sites of outstanding natural beauty.
Iain Perkins, of Sustainable Warminster, said: “The high point of Damask Way has been enjoyed by the people of Warminster for centuries.
“It looks out onto the veteran woodland of Southleigh and Eastleigh Woods that has been part of our historic landscape that now sits within the The Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. ....

Sustainable Warminster members protest in their new t-shirts against the Damask Way housing development in Warminster
CAMPAIGNERS in Warminster have warned that a proposed new housing development could result in a loss of dark sky at night.
They say plans to build 28 new homes at Damask Way could pose a major threat to local wildlife.
Housing developer Backhouse (Warminster) Ltd wants to build 28 new homes on land east of Damask Way and east of Upper Marsh Road and north of Smallbrook Lane in Warminster.
The development already has outline planning permission by Wiltshire Council and the latest application - due to be decided this month - is about the exact form that development should take. ....

Protest against land clearance

ENVIRONMENTAL campaigners in masks protested in strong winds on Saturday against the clearance of bushes among active badger setts for a controversial housing development in Warminster.
Locals stood along the Smallbrook Road near to the footpath that leads up to the proposed Damask Way housing development to highlight the clearance taking place amongst active badger setts.
They donned badger masks to highlight that the clearance should not be taking place during nest-building time for the badgers.
Clare Hancock, of local environmental campaign group Sustainable Warminster, said: We wanted to show our concern about the terrible disturbance on Damask Field of active badger setts. This should not be happening between December and June. ....
