Personal interest hampers Nangahrar talc bidding process

27 May 2021 - 17:00 KABUL (Pajhwok): A mining company has won excavation contract of a portion of a talc mine in eastern Nangarhar province after revocation of earlier small contracts but the fresh contractor could not start its operation in three years until the process was called off, Pajhwok Afghan News learned reliably. The company, the contract of which was revoked for a second time and its three years wasted, claims that some beneficiaries disrupted the process but the Ministry of Mining and Petroleum (MoMP) argues the bidding process was announced canceled because transparency had not been ensured based on technical and legal problems.

He said this information was collected between 2018 and 2020. The information contains the number of mineral areas, locations of mines, who control them and types of minerals. Traders want permanent slate stone transfer permit

20 Apr 2021 - 09:24 JALALABAD (Pajwhok): Pajhwok Afghan News findings show the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) has temporarily allowed transfer of slate stones in Nangarhar province after around a year-long suspension of the process. Owners of companies and factories involved in slate stones extraction and process have rejected the MoMP decision and said that the move could harm investors and traders and thousands of people working in the industry would lose their jobs. In March 2020, National Procurement Commission in a meeting cancelled slate stones contracts with companies and stopped processing and transporting of the stones. Mohammad Aziz Gharwal, spokesman of MoMP, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 23 areas containing slate stones were awarded to the private sector between 2012 and 2017.

Govt-Fortescue mining agreement sparks concerns

10 Mar 2021 - 20:26 KABUL (Pajhwok): An agreement has been signed with an Australian company in violation of the mining law, some sources say and the Wolesi Jirga’s Environmental Protection Commission says the matter is being probed. The Ministry of Mining and Petroleum (MoMP) in coordination with the Presidential Palace Investment Facilitation Unit signed Frame Work Deed of Agreement for the Development of Mining with Australian Fortescue Future Industries PTY LTD on September 27/2020. The agreement has been signed by Attaullah Naseeb, the Presidential Palace Investment Facilitation Unit head, Mohammad Haroon Chakhansouri, Minister of Mining and Petroleum and President Ashraf Ghani as an eyewitness.
