The post and its subsequent circulation drew the ire of children’s rights activists, the Police Commissioner and many others who voiced their disgust and condemnation. Just before noon today, one of the accused in the case, Elvin Smith, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser on charges of kidnapping and wounding. He was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May eighteenth. Oliver Sutherland That is when his suspected partner in crime, Oliver Sutherland is expected to be arraigned on the same charges. Sutherland was arraigned on Monday on a separate charge of being a member of a street gang and was remanded due to the nature of the offense. Mar 15, 2021 Oliver Sutherland The trio police accuse of kidnapping and torturing a minor over the weekend were shuttled to the Magistrate’s Court in the back of a police van this afternoon but they never appeared before a magistrate. It is not clear if there was an error with their charge sheets, but sometime around three p.m., police escorted Elvin Smith separately to the Raccoon Street Police Station and then took Oliver Sutherland back to the Queen Street Police Station around four. The woman detained along with them, Axia Sanchez, was allowed to leave the courthouse, presumably after police decided to not bring about any charge against her. Sutherland and Smith did appear before Magistrate Tricia Pitts Anderson earlier today on a charge of Being a Member of a Street Gang.
