We, the undersigned congratulate Ghanaians on relatively peaceful elections. We note that the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sworn to dedicate himself to the service and well-being of Ghanaians, advance peace, progress and prosperity using his Executive Power as Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ghana.
Recent developments in the forestry and environmental sector are of grave concern and require urgent action. The indifferent attitude accorded matters of environmental abuse, destruction of Ghana’s natural heritage and non-compliance with existing national legal frameworks on sustainable environmental management, fill us with disquiet. The following key issues require immediate action from His Excellency the President: ....

Meet two Ghanaian Environmentalists

Meet two Ghanaian Environmentalists
Listen to article
As we start the new year, the issue of illegal logging and galamsey has yet again made the news. I wish to take this opportunity to highlight two Ghanaians – one is an activist highlighting the issues of environmental malpractice, and the other an eco-consultant demonstrating the potential of the green economy.
Last year Ghanaian-born barrister and environmentalist Awula Serwah was honoured as one of the MIPAD (Most Influential People Of Africa Descent) Heroes Of Climate Change. The well-deserved accolade speaks to her long-standing passion for addressing environmental issues.
In the late 1980s she formed the East La Environmental Group, through which she raised environmental awareness and beautified her Accra neighbourhood by planting trees. Her stay in Britain for the last 20 years has included using her BTWSC voluntary organisation to run a series of It s Cool To. youth oriented environmental projects, a ....

Why we must deal ruthlessly with Ghana's wicked-cohorts of Galamsayers, illegal Sandwinners and illegal loggers

Why we must deal ruthlessly with Ghana s wicked-cohorts of Galamsayers, illegal Sandwinners and illegal loggers
JAN 15, 2021
My takeaway-observation, yesterday, after inspecting damage caused by illegal sandwinners, to my family s incredibly beautiful, and idyllic, farmland, at Thompsonakura (five minutes as the crow flies from Kyekyewre, which is off the Accra-Kumasi highway, between Teacher Mante and Asuboi), is that, clearly, conditions now exist, for the super-wealthy destroyers of our collective natural heritage (currently engaged in galamsey, illegal logging, for bush-cut chainsaw lumber, as well as illegal sand winning, nationwide), to become tomorrow s super-dangerous and murderous-warlords.
Fellow active-citizens, of Nkrumah s Ghana, as aspirational and civilised Africans, if we are not careful, those vile, evil-greed-filled-individuals, will eventually end-up dominating our dear nation - if preventative-measures are not taken immediately, by Ghanaian offici ....
