A certain ‘Ikonso Commander’, the alleged leader of militia arm of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has been killed in a joint operation between operatives of the police, Department of State Services and Army. Six other fighters of the militia group were also killed in the operation at the alleged operational headquarters of the militant group in Awomama Village, Oru East LGA of Imo State, according to PRNigeria. According to the report, sophisticated weapons include six AK47 rifles, hundreds of ammunition of different caliber and lots of charms, including bullet proof charms were recovered from the insurgents. ....

JUST IN: Many killed as security operatives raid ESN headquarters The army said the second in command in the ESN was among those killed. A security team made up of officials of the Nigerian Army, the police and the State Security Service (SSS) has raided the headquarters of the Eastern security Network (ESN), the militant arm of the outlawed pro-Biafra group, IPOB. At least 11 people were killed in the ensuing battle including four security operatives and a man described as the second in command of the ESN, an official said. According to a statement by the army spokesperson, Mohammed Yerima, the second in command of the ESN, whose name was given as Ikonson Commander, was killed in the gun battle with the security team. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reacted to the killing of one of its leaders, saying Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, “will pay dearly”. The Nigerian Army on Saturday said it had led a combined team of security forces to raid “the operational Headquarters of the IPOB/ESN terrorists in Awomama Village, Oru East LGA of Imo State.” During the raid, Ikonso – who the Army said was the mastermind of the April 5 attacks on the Imo State Police Command and the Owerri Correctional Center, in addition to multiple attacks in the South East and South South regions – was neutralised along with six of his top Commanders. ....
