N. Bahr-el-Ghazal motorists decry high fuel prices
Motorists in Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State on Sunday issued a joint statement in which they called upon fuel stations to lower the sky-rocketing prices.
A liter of petrol or diesel now costs 600 South Sudanese Pound (SSP) yet it sold at 300 at the end of last year. 5 liters of lubricant for heavy-duty machines, cars, and motorbikes which cost 3000 now goes for 6000 SSP.
Deng Mou, a truck driver in Aweil town, said the fuel prices are becoming increasingly exorbitant and that commercial drivers can seldom afford it as they do not earn as much while having to maintain their vehicles and carter for their families. ....

Former Aweil education minister dies
Angelo Atak Akol, 69, the former minister of education in the government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State died on Wednesday night, the education ministry said in a statement earlier today.
The deceased, an eminent educationist in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, attended a wedding party at South Sudan Hotel in Aweil on Wednesday night before heading home and developing health complications that later claimed his life.
It is reported that on reaching home, Angelo Atak developed chest pain and rushed to a private clinic and later to Aweil Civil Hospital where he died before being attended to. ....

1 killed, suspect arrested in Aweil South
Police in Aweil South County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State said a young man identified as Luol Majak Arop was killed during communal work involving local youth in Panthou Payam last week and that the suspected killer, Akuei Akot Akuei, has been apprehended.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the Aweil South County police inspector, Lt. Colonel Andrew Arop, said the young man died due to injuries to his neck following a dispute among the youths.
“Our news is good. We celebrated in happiness, there was no serious problem that happened and the celebrations are going on well. What happened in Panthou on 20 December was that somebody called Akuei Akot Akuei killed Luol Majak Luol. We carried out procedures and we arrested the suspect and he is now in custody,’’ Col. Arop said. ....

How Severe, How Many and When – In the current analysis period of Octoberto November 2020, an estimated 6.35 million people (52.6% of the population) faced Crisis (IPC Phase 3) or worse acute food insecurity, of which 2.102 million people faced Emergency (IPC Phase 4) acute food insecurity. An estimated 24,000 people were classified in Catastrophe1 (IPC Phase 5) acute food insecurity, in Pibor County (11,000) in Pibor Administration Area, and in Tonj North County (13,000) in Warrap State. The most food insecure states are Jonglei, Unity, Upper Nile, Lakes, Warrap and Northern Bahr el Ghazal where more than 50% of their respective populations are facing Crisis (IPC Phase 3) or worse acute food insecurity. ....
