MASSENA â Now that school doors are closed for the summer, contractors are working simultaneously on two phases of the Massena Central School Districtâs $49.6 million capital project.
âWe have a lot of construction under way,â said Edward Bernhauer, an architect for the IBI Group, the districtâs architectural firm.
He said work being done was the second summer of phase one, a carryover from 2020, and the initiation of phase two. Phase one work is primarily site work, as well as roofing work and roofing replacement.
âWhat that basically does is makes all of our facilities and all of our buildings active with work currently going on,â Mr. Bernhauer said.
MASSENA â Contracts have been awarded for phase two of the Massena Central School Districtâs $49.6 million capital project, with work starting this summer.
The general construction contract was awarded to Bette & Cring, LLC with a base bid of $4,665,000. The mechanical construction contract was awarded to Northern Mechanicals, Inc. with a base bid of $7,715,000. The electrical construction contract was awarded to S&L Electric, Inc. with a base bid of $2,569,000.
The low bidder for the electrical work had been Watson Electric, Inc., but they withdrew their bid because of a mathematical error, and the contract was awarded to the next lowest bidder.
MASSENA — Contracts have been awarded for phase two of the Massena Central School District’s $49.6 million capital project, with work starting this summer.
MASSENA â Although one contractor will be doing roof work on multiple schools this summer as part of the second phase of the Massena Central School Districtâs $49.6 million capital project, officials have opted to sign two contracts rather than one.
One contract covers work at Nightengale Elementary School, Massena Central High School and J.W. Leary Junior High School. The second contract covers work at Jefferson and Madison elementary schools.
âAfter much discussion, we decided to go with two separate contracts. Though it is more paperwork for all involved, the two contracts makes clear that we will have two separate crews and leadership on the project. After the delays we experienced with Jefferson Elementary, it is probably best we keep the pressure on to ensure we have the manpower and appropriate attention to each roof in the project,â Superintendent Patrick Brady said.
