Meet Pappammal, the Centenarian Woman Farmer Who Was Honoured With the Padma Shri

On January 26, media people descended on the idyllic village Thekkampatti located in the western periphery of Coimbatore district. They had come to interview 105-year-old Pappammal, Thekkampattiâs well-known woman farmer.
Pappammal was one of the recipients of Padma Shri, the civilian award, that the government had announced. A few hours before the media came, she had been at her farm, watering her banana crops. When her 50-year-old grandson R. Balu told her about the award and the mediaâs presence, she expressed disbelief initially. ....

R-Day celebrated in subdued manner in Coimbatore, Tirupur | Coimbatore News

Coimbatore: The 72nd Republic day was celebrated in a subdued manner at VOC Park in the city on Tuesday. Collector K Rajamani hoisted the tricolour flag and accepted the guard of honour from armed forces, home guards, fire and rescue personnel and National Cadet Corps (NCC). All the cultural events were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The collector distributed the Chief Minister’s police medal to 124 personnel both from the city and rural police department. He also honored 92 government officials for their outstanding work and four government bus drivers for operating buses without any accidents for the past 25 years, a statement from the collector’s office said. ....

The New Education Policy-2020 provided plenty of opportunities to students and also helped them face real-life situations, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said while addressing online the gathering at the 32nd graduation day at the Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women on Friday.
A release from the institution said the Policy helped the students choose not only the content and duration of study but also prepared them to face real-life situations. ....
