call, it does send a signal that democrats are very galvanized behind that. and we can t wait until the 11th hour before the general election to get out the vote. so, i know of social conservative organizations that are getting bus tours ready, get out the vote efforts, volunteer groups to galvanize the pro-life community to get them out to vote. early on in the general election process. but this was certainly an opportunity for us to realize that democrats are just as motivated about this as we have been on supreme court justices for the past decade. so, both sides are really looking at that is an opportunity to buckle up and get out the vote. let me bring someone else in the conversation, cnn political commentator paul welcome to the conversation. harry enten you know, data as i call him, cnn numbers crunchers, he s an he crunch these numbers for us. he said democrats have now outperformed biden in 2020 and each of the four house special elections since roe was overturn
political commentators alice stewart and political analyst alex burns. he is the co-author of the book, this will not pass. trump, biden and the battle for america s future. good evening, one and all. thank you so much for joining. alex, we re gonna start with you. we need a reality check on the midterms, everybody s been anticipating a red wave, but that seems to have shifted significantly in the past month. what are you expecting now? don, i think there s no question that the circumstances of this campaign have changed substantially since the start of the summer. and it really does help to take a step back and look at the big picture here. the president s party almost always does terribly in the midterm elections, and democrats are probably going to have a pretty rough november. but when you think back to where we were at the beginning of june, with sky high gas prices, the biden agenda dead in the water, or so it seemed, and the republican party facing different kinds of
presidency. i m john berman. brianna is off. cnn chief white house correspondent and pinocchio fan kaitlan collins is here. i know a thing or two about trump, we got a lot to talk about when it comes to that. not making any connections. we begin with the new cnn reporting overnight involving a newly revealed email from the national archives, email that shows just how long donald trump has been holding sensitive documents in the archives did not think should be in his position at all. the email indicates records were not returned despite a determination by a top white house lawyer that they had to be, according to a source throughout 2021, there are about a dozen emails and calls including a may 2021 email from the national archives to trump s lawyers that reads in part, it is also our understanding that roughly two dozen boxes of original presidential records were kept in the residence of the white house over the course of president trump s last year in office and have no
reporter: so he s going to be pushing for this three-month gags holiday, and basically that would mean a 90-day suspension of the federal gas tax. if you re wondering what that s going to save you when you re actually at the pump, right now the federal gas tax is about 18 cents for a regular gallon and 24 cents for a gallon of diesel fuel. so not really that big of a difference when you re looking at an average price of gas. it is getting close to $5. of course it topped $5 earlier this month. so that s been a big question for lawmakers because getting this done is not just something that the president can do on his own. yes, he s about to call for it any moment now. but it really requires an act of congress on capitol hill to actually get this passed. and you re already see something concern even from democrats in the president s own party about whether or not this would actually make that big of a difference, and if it s worth what it would do. one of those concerns has c
