Dr Bloomfield was lobbied by cricket bosses for the players to get priority access to the Covid-19 vaccine, at the Black Caps vs Australia Twenty20 match in Wellington on Sunday.
He said two days ago that he had been at the match in a private capacity, but said he now accepted that was incorrect. As I clarified earlier yesterday, I am in the role of the Director-General of Health every day, he said in a written statement. I recognise that the invitation was extended to me because I am in that position. It is important that I avoid any potential for perception of a conflict of interest or personal benefit.
