Perth lockdown 'all bad management': Calls to end Covid-19 hotel quarantine


CALL TO END THE HOTEL QUARANTINE ERA
Amid the regular leaks from hotel quarantine – including similar recent cases of guest-to-guest transmission in NSW – there is growing urgency in calls to establish dedicated quarantine stations similar to Howards Springs in the Northern Territory as a safer form of housing returned travellers.
Australian Medical Association national president Omar Khorshid said he had concerns about infection control in all of Australia’s quarantine hotels, with the probable exception of Howard Springs.
“Hotel quarantine was always a short-term measure and we’ve been calling for a while now governments to consider longer-term measures,” Dr Khorshid said. ....

Philip is Director of Nursing Research, Cabrini Health and Associate Professor, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University, Victoria, Australia. After undertaking a Masters of Clinical Epidemiology, he worked in both state and national level in healthcare infection prevention positions. In 2016, he completed his PhD titled Evidence based recommendations for national healthcare associated infection surveillance . A/Professor Russo has attracted over $1 million in research funding from government, industry and academic sources and is recognised internationally for work in infection prevention. A/Professor Russo has presented at both national and international conferences, authored over 50 peer reviewed articles and several book chapters. Currently he is leading the Australian National Healthcare Associated Infection Point Prevalence Survey, and collaborating on several other healthcare associated infection related national research projects.
