Eddie Lee Anderson of River Ridge, Louisiana, tested positive while being housed at the Theo Lacy branch jail within the last week, one of hundreds infected in a recent outbreak at the county s lockups. Anderson was taken to an area hospital last Sunday and was pronounced dead about 5 this morning, said Carrie Braun of the Orange County Sheriff s Department. Anderson was last in court for a pretrial hearing Nov. 6 at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach. He was charged with the May 18, 1976, murder of Leslie Penrod Harris, who was raped and strangled. ....

The county logged 3,250 COVID-19 new infections, raising the cumulative case total to 105,754. Hospitalizations jumped from 1,236 Sunday to 1,287, including 288 ICU patients, up from 284 the previous day. Both are new records a daily occurrence since last week. The county s ICU bed availability shrunk from 11.2% Sunday to 9.3% Monday in the unadjusted category, but is at zero for the “adjusted metric the state created to reflect the difference in beds available for COVID-19 patients and non-coronavirus patients. ....
Last week, the county reported 62 fatalities, up from 41 and 26, respectively, in the two previous weeks. Prior to this month, the record for ICU patients in Orange was 245 during a mid-July surge.
