Next Audubon virtual home gardening series May 4 | News, Sports, Jobs

Tuesday evening, May 4, is the next to last opportunity to learn about Starting a Successful Home Garden through the virtual series presented by Leigh Rovegno, Audubon Community Nature Center executive director. The youngster pictured is watering the garden at Lincoln Elementary School in Denver, Colo., where Rovegno previously ran a school garden program.
Leigh Rovegno, Audubon Community Nature Center executive director, will present the fifth in her virtual seven-part series, Starting a Successful Home Garden, from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 4.
The presentation focuses on Planting Seedlings and Seeds Outdoors.
Prior to coming to Audubon, Rovegno worked at a variety of organic farms located in places including New Hampshire, Italy, and Colorado. ....

Galati named Audubon Community Nature Center 2021 Scholarship winner | News, Sports, Jobs

Tim Galati, a senior at Southwestern Central School, has been awarded the 2021 Ryan Exline Memorial Scholarship by the Audubon Community Nature Center.
Every spring since 2003 Audubon Community Nature Center education staff have raised scholarship funds through their Birdathon on the first Saturday in May. Participants look for as many species as possible and generous supporters pledge an amount, either per species or in total.
For the first time, this year’s birdathon extends over nine days, from May 1 to May 9. Amounts raised above the $500 for the Ryan Exline Memorial Scholarship will go toward the Pamela A. Westrom Wildlife Habitat now under construction. ....
