Loomis Elementary School in the Marple Newtown School District has an unusual “Elf on the Shelf” appearing at the school this year. Principal Jaime Smyth watches students atop the sign outside of the school. The Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas tradition where a special Elf is sent to a child’s home, or school, from the North Pole to encourage good behavior in children. The idea is that Santa s little helper watches the children by day, and each night, he returns to the North Pole to report on whether the children were naughty or nice.
