Council sees fiscal positives, looks at flood plain plan

Van Wert City Council learned of some city financial positives, while also lending its support to a development/flood mitigation project in Vision Park, approving an additional payment to the Convention & Visitors Bureau, and authorizing the sale of outdated and unused city-owned equipment during its meeting Monday.

Van Wert City Council adopted a number of end-of-year housekeeping fiscal measures and the 2021 permanent appropriations ordinance during a brief final meeting Monday to close out 2020.

VW Council holds discussion on city's financial situation « The VW independent

City Auditor Martha Balyeat noted that, with income tax revenues down 3.5 percent (nearly 8 percent down from 2019 projections that estimated a 4 percent increase in revenues) because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the city is hurting, but the receipt of several hundred thousand dollars in CARES Act funding will help the bottom line especially since the requirements were loosened on those funds to allow the city to use them for salaries, as well as other expenses. ....
