Emerson works for Alaska Airlines, which owns horizon air, and he was authorized to sit in the cockpit in the flight deck seat. Aviation experts say its not unusual for a pilot commuting to another airport to sit there. Were still working to figure out exactly what happened next, but Officials Say emerson was overpowered and Alaska Airlines saying his attempt to shut off the engines was unsuccessful, adding that the captain and first officer quickly restored landed. The plane, was then able to safely land in portland with no one injured. Heres a recording of the exchange on board between the pilot and air traffic controllers.
