You just try to put it behind you and go on with life. Did you have to deal with people who were critical of our involvement in vietnam or did you just not talk about it at all . Beleaguered marine, holed up in a chapel, called the peace chapel. Peace church, yes. And it was a dramatic picture of a soldier under the duress of combat right there, with the enemy surrounding the place. It was a really dramatic couple of days for this squad, from a downed helicopter. But that photograph acquired a history all of its own. Can you trace the impact of that photograph . It took on a 37year history that i could never have ever believed or, you know that that would take place over any photograph that i ever shot. But it happened may 15, 1967. I remember it like it was you and i talking now. But i had gotten dropped into a search and destroy operation up in that providence. And we werent on the ground for 15 minutes, and it was the First Battalion marines. They had been hit pretty bad. The day before, they had taken a lot of casualties. And i was no sooner on the ground walking over to link up with them, and all of ....

Now, when Lieutenant Governor polito and i complained last year we said we were chasing 100 of the vote. Based on the results this morning, we clearly didnt get it. But we campaigned hard in many communities of color, and we did so because we believe these neighborhoods have not benefited from the economic success that has become more commonplace in other parts of the commonwealth. But there are inspiring points of light in these communities because individual economic development, education, Community Developmen ....

And ive heard confessions and i know people struggling with these issues and i always have that in front of my mind when im speaking about it. Not directly at first. But she has this sense that he loves her and he deals with her accusers and establishes himself on her side and then he finally says to her in the end, go and sib sin no more, which makes the whole story. That is the hard thing. It is to hold up justice and still permeate it with love. Because Justice Without love becomes cruelty. And i think that is what we need to do.
