CNNW At This Hour With Kate Bolduan August 22, 2018 15:00:00

Kate Bolduan gives a fresh take on todays top stories. Reporting violations where they failed to report some things inadvertently. I think in the obama case it was what are called 48hour report, failure to report contributions. In none of those cases that im aware of has the actual candidate or the president been implicated in ordering it be done. It wasnt that obama said lets not report these contributions. Those are kind of the more the regular violations that you see in president ial campaigns. Here we have an allegation that the president directly ordered cohen to pay money to prevent people from talking about alleged affairs. Thats a potential violation on several counts. One, people talk about the reporting violation. These were contributions that werent reported. Thats true. But, they were paid by the trump organization. That makes it a corporate contribution. It is illegal to make a corporate contribution. It is also illegal for an officer of a corporation to authorize a corpor ....

Former georgia democratic state senator and attorney jen jurden and former prosecutor david aarons. it is nice to have you both with us. david, what are you expecting here in terms of witness testimony, and evidence that could be presented that shows us what is in fani willis s case on monday? it is going to be very interesting to see how this proceeds. mr. meadows s team is going to have to describe why mr. meadows was acting in his federal officer capacity. i m not entirely sure what evidence they ve going to offer of that. they probably don t want him to testify and the judge may allow them to proceed based on an attorney proffer. in terms of what this sets up for me too is this fascinating look, we know that brad raffensperger have been subpoenaed and along with those on the infamous phone call where donald trump just wanted to find the 11,780 votes. fani willis has indicated that ....

Set up a time for michael cohen to sit down with the investigators, with the prosecutors, from bob mueller s office and tell him, this is what i have. or even the lawyer can do that. lanny can sit down with those folks and say, let me give you an attorney proffer. i m going to tell you what my client would say. instead of doing it in the news media. because as we ve seen, the special counsel s office is really not inclined to use the media as part of their investigation. so from a legal strategy, i think you would be doing that behind closed doors and not in front of the camera. it s fascinating, too, larry. i know that you said this plea deal itself could form the basis for impeachment proceedings. not as many people are jumping on that impeachment bandwagon. but you think it is okay to go there. well, look. i think it has to be discussed. if there is serious evidence the president committed a felony, then i think impeachment is one of the things that s on the table. as a practica ....

Given because that person can point them to an even bigger fish or to somebody else who has actually done something wrong? i mean, if general flynn, if the story in the words of his attorney has a story to tell, the story he told is nothing illegal happened, everything i do is above board, would there be any reason to grant him immunity? or is it usually because that person, general flynn in this case, can direct them to somebody else who may have done something wrong or does have a story of some sort of wrongdoing to tell? yeah, that s correct. so the way it would usually happen, the way it almost always happens is there will be what s called an attorney proffer. and the counsel for the person who s seeking immunity, in this ....

It, but what are you going to deliver? to get immunity, what are you going to tell us? and they sit down and they do it through the attorney. he has an attorney proffer or he sits there and tells them, this is what i will say under oath if given the opportunity. then they have to determine what other crimes he committed. do they even know the scope of the crimes he committed. what potentially is the crime that he could be afraid of? well, he could be afraid of treason, aiding and abetting and treason. he could be afraid of failing to disclose financial payments from foreign countries. he can be failing to file as an agent. he s got four, five or six major felonies that he s facing here. the big one they don t want him. they want the president. that s who they want, fred. okay. avery? yeah, i mean, what we don t know is what sally yates is going to tell the house intelligence committee. what kind of contact was there ....
