A Rock County jury finds a Janesville man guilty of first-degree intentional homicide.
24-year-old Julian Collazo was on trial this week for the second time in the 2017 stabbing death of 43-year-old Christine Scaccia-Lubeck.
Rock County Judge Barbara McCrory declared a mistrial in his first trial back in October of 2019 due to an uncooperative juror refusing to deliberate.
District Attorney David O’Leary pointed to DNA evidence linking Collazo to the murder, including the victim’s blood on his clothing and his DNA underneath her fingernails.
Defense attorney Jeff Jensen tried to argue that Collazo’s upset girlfriend Nicole Kazar actually committed the murder before the two stole Scaccia-Lubeck’s vehicle and fled the state.

The second jury trial of a Janesville man charged with homicide is underway this week in Rock County Court.
District Attorney David O’Leary is trying to convict 24-year-old Julian Collazo of first-degree intentional homicide in the 2017 stabbing death of 43-year-old Christine Scaccia-Lubeck.
Collazo’s attorney Jeff Jensen contend that Collazo’s jealous girlfriend Nicole Kazar actually committed the murder. She is expected to testify in court Tuesday.
Monday’s testimony featured the victim’s mother describing the moment she discovered her daughter’s dead body.
Multiple Janesville police officers and detectives also testified with evidence collected from the crime scene, including Collazo’s shoes that match a shoe print left in the victim’s blood.

The co-owner of what used to be Copperhead Contracting in Milton has paid restitution on projects he was charged with not completing in Janesville and the town of Bradford, so his charges were dismissed.
Court records show that Rock County prosecutors on April 22 dismissed the felony charges levied against Ryan A. Metzker, 33, of Fort Atkinson, before he ever made an initial appearance on the case.
District Attorney David OâLeary told The Gazette last summer when charges were first filed that he was negotiating with Metzkerâs attorney to get restitution.
Metzker himself also said in an August interview that a refund on the projects would be coming.
âI question if we did all we could in this incident,â Moore said.
On Mondyâs most recent case in Rock County, Court Commissioner Stephen Meyer on Feb. 4 ordered a signature bond, and conditions of that bond included no contact with the woman, court records show. He was also given level 2 supervision through JusticePoint, a pretrial supervision program.
Moore said he wants to know what information was available to officials involved with assigning that level of supervision. He mentioned Mondyâs other criminal history, which he said included federal drug charges.
Moore said level 2 was a âstandard assessment,â and he said Mondy was released from custody even though âthe violenceâ by Mondy toward the victim was âescalating.â
