This hour, we continue cnns special live coverage of a historic vote on capitol hill. A moment, the House Of Representatives will hold a key vote on a motion to oust Kevin Mccarthy as speaker. A motion being brought by one of his fellow republicans. At the beginning of the day, we knew there were five republicans who would vote to oust him. Now, we know there are six. And were learning that mccarthys republican allies are attempting to make a lastminute plea to the 212 House Democrats there, to try to join them, to save him. But House Democrats appear to be united in not wanting to rescue mccarthy. Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries just sent what is known as a Dear Colleague letter to his fellow democrats. Saying its the responsibility of the gop to end their own House Republican civil war. Lets go right to capitol hill now where we find cnns manu raju and cnns melanie zanona. Manu, to you first, what are you hearing from republicans as this vote gets closer and closer . Reporter well,
you know, the president announced he was going to europe in 10 days like most of us are hoping this might actually, you know, maybe we could get a peace agreement, again, nobody talking about that. no leadership antony blinken the secretary of state has a private jet. he wasn t in that meeting with the other three leaders of europe who went into kyiv. i mean, there is no leadership a. the diplomatic efforts appear at least from where we are standing to be very aanemic. maybe there is stuff going on behind the scenes but the optic doesn t look like america is attack leadership. steve: let s wait 10 days. okay these sanctions are going to impact him. wait a month. a month is four weeks. do you know what today is? today starts the fourth week. are the sanctions really biting that badly? have we brought russia to their knees? if. brian: we re still buying oil from russia. steve: exactly.
maybe you can go back to november or so, that with new authorities actually you can go farther back in the year with special operations forces, being able to go attack leadership. now they ll go after things like the drug labs and drug networks and financial networks, just as they went after the oil networks for isis in iraq and syria. they sent more attack planes to help with offensive operations and cover support for ground forces, both american and afghan. so they do credit trump. they like the south asia strategy. they re glad that they have at least that. it s not much more than a speech and five bullet points, but they say it s more than perhaps the guys in syria know they re fighting for. so they have a little bit of direction and they re ready to go. check out kevin s article in defense one, meet the believers, u.s. commanders ready for a reboot. it s a fascinating read. kevin, great work with that, hans nichols, thank you to you as well. we re minutes away from the
